Steelers expected to try and re-sign Dwyer, Stephens-Howling

Scott Brown of ESPN.com believes the Pittsburgh Steelers will attempt to bring back both Jonathan Dwyer and Larod Stephens-Howling, but not Felix Jones.

I think they will try to re-sign Jonathan Dwyer and LaRod Stephens-Howling assuming they are confident the latter will make a full recovery from the surgery that fixed a torn ACL. I don’t see them making any attempt at re-signing Jones, especially if Stephens-Howling is healthy since they would fill the same role. Dwyer is an interesting case. I think he would be an ideal backup to Le’Veon Bell because he can provide injury insurance at running back and also spell Bell. But he may want to sign somewhere where he has a chance to start or at least play in some sort of rotation. That’s not going to happen in Pittsburgh as Bell has clearly established himself as an every-down back. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Howling-Stephens is the only one of the three to return and the Steelers add depth at running back through free agency or the draft.

Stephens-Howling in particular was a nice addition to the Steelers offense last year.  It was unfortunate that he tore his ACl so early in the season.
